Eligibility Criteria to apply for UPSC CDS Exams

Age Criteria for UPSC CDS I 2017 Exams
For Indian Military Academy & Indian Naval Academy, unmarried male candidates should not born earlier than 02-01-1993 and later than 01-01-1998. For Air Force Academy, unmarried male candidates should not born earlier than 02-01-1993 and later than 01-01-1998. For Officers Training Academy (Men), unmarried male candidates should not born earlier than 01-01-1998 and later than 01-01-1998 & for Officers Training Academy (Women) unmarried female candidates should not born earlier than 02-01-1992 and later than 01-01-1998.

Educational Qualification required for UPSC CDS Exams
For IMA & Officers Training Academy posts candidates should have degree from a recognized University, for Air Force Academy candidates should have degree from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering and for Indian Naval Academy candidates should have degree in Engineering.

Application Fee for UPSC CDS Exams
General and OBC category candidates have to pay Rs.200/- only as application fee either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash or through net banking of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit Card. There is no application fee for SC/ST/Female candidates as they are exempted from payment of application fee.

The selection process is based totally on the basis of performance in written exam & interview.

Eligible candidates may apply online on UPSC website www.upsconline.nic.in from 09/11/2016 to 02/12/2016 - 6:00PM.

Instructions for Online Application for UPSC CDS Exams:

  1. Candidates should scan their photo and signature as per its format & size described in CDS Notification.
  2. Candidates should have valid and active Email id.
  3. Make the payment either online or offline in any SBI & its associated branch before starting the application procedure.
  4. Log on to www.upsconline.nic.in website or Click Here to start the application process.
  5. Complete Part-I Registration first as it provides you the Registration ID, retain it for further use.
  6. For Part-II Registration Number and Date of Birth will be asked to enter.
  7. Now its all done as you complete Part-II Registration.

20 to 24 years as on 01st Jan 2017 i.e. born not earlier than 02nd Jan 1993 and not later than 01 Jan 1997 (Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 yrs. i.e. born not earlier than02nd Jan 1991 and not later than 01st Jan 1997) only are eligible Note: Candidate below 25 years of age must be unmarried.

Question: How to do preparation for CDS entrance exams?
Answer:  To clear the CDS entrance exams aspirants are advised to follow a planned preparation, a review of previous question papers and to master the art of answering Multiple Choice Questions. Candidates must go through the syllabus of NCERT/CBSE up to tenth level to have a good understanding about the topics. As the exam is objective type, the skills required are speed and accuracy. For Elementary Mathematics candidates are advised to do regular practice with short cut methods, the concepts should be clear in geometry, trigonometry and mensuration. Good command of English especially in grammar, comprehension, spotting errors, ordering of words/sentences, synonyms, antonyms etc are essentially required. The candidate must update himself on events of national and international importance and posses ample information about state, nation and word at large.
The interview focuses on reasoning ability, expression ability to influence other with logical arguments, to take initiative, self confidence, communication skill, courage, a sense of respect towards senior and discipline. That's why candidate must train himself to think logically and rationally. General awareness of the candidate is also tested by the interviewer.
