Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) is conducted two time in a year it is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). It provides an opportunity to candidates to get recruited into the Indian Air Force Academy (IAFA), Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and Officers Training Academy (OTA). The exam takes place in April and September or November every year for CDS I and CDS II respectively. The citizen of India, Subject of Bhutan, Subject of Nepal, Tibetan Refugee before 1 July 1962, and a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, etc. are eligible to apply for CDS. (A) Nationality: A candidate must be single and must either be:
(i) a Citizen of India, or
(ii) a subject of Nepal, or
(iii) a person who is of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam having intention of permanently settling in India. Further Provided that a candidate belonging to categories as (ii) and (iii) above shall be an individual in whose favor an eligibility certificate has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will not be compulsory in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
A candidate whose certificate of eligibility is mandatory, may be admitted to the exam provisionally would be subject to the mandatory certificate being given to him/her by the Government before declaration of the result by UPSC
(B) Age Limits, Marital Status :
(i) For IMA —Candidates must be between 19 and 24 years old and must be unmarried males.
(ii) For Indian Naval Academy —Candidates must be between 19 and 22 years old and must be unmarried males.
(iii) For Air Force Academy —Candidates must be between 20 and 24 years old. The upper age limit for candidates holding a valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years. Note: Candidates not more than 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply, but they will neither be provided married accommodation nor can they live with family out of the premises during the training period.
(iv) For Officers' Training Academy —(SSC Course for men) Candidates must be between 19 and 25 years old and must be unmarried males.
(v) For Officers' Training Academy —(SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Candidates must be between 19 and 25 years old. Unmarried women candidate, issueless widows not remarried, issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible.
(C ) Educational Qualifications:
(i) For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai —Candidates must possess a degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
(ii) For Indian Naval Academy —Candidates must possess a degree in Engineering from a recognized University/Institution.
(iii) For Air Force Academy —Candidates must possess a degree from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or a Bachelor of Engineering.
Graduates with first choice as Army/Navy/Air Force are required to submit proof of Graduation/provisional certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB Interview at the SSB.
Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester of their degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply, provided they do not have any present backlog up to the last semester/year for which results have been declared up to the time of submission of the application. They requires to submit valid proof of passing the degree examination at the commencement of the course.
